watching: rain outside

it's a few weeks until the rainy season reaches kanto, but it's already getting hot and humid here. despite the sweatiness, i'm enjoying it. i grew up in a humid climate originally.. glad i'm back in this kind of weather.
ofc here in japan, with rainy season, comes hydrangeas! i always wanted to grow these, but back in central tx, they'd shrivel in the hot dry air if i even tried. at first i checked the garden center closest to my house, but they only had wine/purple shades that i don't like. so me and my husband hopped the bus (and then transferred to another bus.. then another...) to a big garden center in yokohama that's still not all that far from home. it was sopping wet and rainy, so the buses were pretty crowded, but the garden center wasn't too bad for a weekend. i brought my hydrangea sepal shaped umbrella for luck finding good hydrangeas (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

this cool vegetable vending machine was near the last bus stop before the garden center.

i didn't get to take pics of the general garden center area, since it was pouring down rain. the place was huge, though! it had wide grounds, a big central building with a cafe, aquarium shop, and decor inside, and a warehouse/greenhouse area across the street. just inside the large building, they had a beautiful display of potted hydrangeas all along a short flight of stairs. these were the high end "designer" ones, some of which were brand new hybrids just introduced this year-- naturally very expensive lol. some of them cost around the same as a brand lolita dress for a small pot. it was still really cool seeing the new variants grown throughout japan. i picked a cute and affordable one from the indoor display, a blue 'なゆた' ('myriad'). we got some drinks at the cafe to take a break, and while my husband was drinking his coffee, i walked around the outdoor area myself. after walking around a bit, i chose 'オーロランジュ' ('aurorange') from the outside hydrangea display.

the garden center had a pet section with some beetles.. i want to get one eventually, but of course all the cool ones here were expensive lol. i'd really like to be able to catch my own beetle outside anyway, but we'll see how that goes.

after getting back, we went back out to another garden center less than 1km from our house, bc i wanted some carpet squares for inside the downstairs closet. i found yet another hydrangea i wanted-- the previous place had this kind too, but i couldn't get it bc they didn't take rakuten pay. most of my garden budget was in rakuten cash, since i just made some sales on rakuma/fril
but this other garden center had the option, so i was able to pick up the hydrangea, as well as soil and pots. this one is '万華鏡' ('kaleidoscope'), another kinda fancy variety. i love the blue to white gradient, especially since it mirrors my 'pink ice' hibiscus, which has a pink to white gradient.

besides the new hydrangeas, my hibiscus and plumeria are coming along too. the hibiscus needs some more nutrient, as it's been blooming like crazy. the plumerias with their one leaf per branch (so far) look like they're giving the middle finger lmao.

it's not just plant life growing, either! i saw some baby shrimp in the aquarium the other day. it's a little hard to photograph them to illustrate the scale clearly, but you can see how tiny they are compared to the gravel vs the full grown shrimp. there's also many, many many baby snails

more flowers are blooming in other areas throughout the neighborhood, besides just my garden. there's morning glories growing alongside an empty field on my street, and lots of outdoor hydrangeas starting to bloom as the azaleas are winding down.

my trading figure obsession has continued; i've finally filled out that thrifted hello kitty shelf to where i like it, and decided on a case for my nurse uniform themed small figures. i got this chocomint/SWIMMER steel case off of mercari, and immediately replaced the cutesy floral door panel with some plain acrylic. i have red cross vinyl decals on order to apply to the sides. i also got three g-taste figures off of yahoo! japan auctions, which turned out to be made by epoch, as in sylvanian familes, that epoch. i had previously gotten the fourth figure from this set secondhand on paypay flea market, so that's the full set. unfortunately the one i got on paypay is missing her hat.

another day this week, we went to the densely developed area just up the way from our neighborhood. there's a bookoff there that's one of my favorites-- i always seem to find good music there. this time, however, i didn't get music.
right away when i walked in, i spotted a korotto manmaru palkia plush. i've got a few pokemon plush from this line, their big eyes and silly proportions are sooo cute, especially legendaries. i then spent a long time rummaging through the figure aisle. it's always an ass ache to find anything other than harem-of-the-month prize figures, but i found some exciting things under the mountain of quintessential quintuplets and re:zero... a ryofu housen resin figure, and another full set of those g-taste nurse figures i got on yahoo auctions. now that i have two sets, i might experiment with some repainting, and i can replace the girl with the missing hat in the medical figure case.

it's been a bit too hot to really put in effort in my outfits, but i like what i wore that day. i've been living in this PIKO t-shirt ever since thrifting it on the fleamarket apps.

i also took a few photos around this area for my cool buildings page and a photo of this flowerbed and its cute sign. the 'nocty' building featured on my buildings page is near this area.

i still haven't been drawing, despite getting those art books for inspo last week
once again, i'm struggling with my need to go do stuff outside, and not wanting to sit down and actually draw. i found some old drawings i did in 8th grade (early 00s) recently.. boku to maoh/okage shadow king, di gi charat, me-tan, and pinky:st fanart, as well as a drawing of the character i came up with for my first BJD, and a self portrait. i drew myself in a skating outfit, as i was doing competitive figure skating at the time haha. the coat was wishful thinking, i just had an ugly navy blue fleece jacket. i miss drawing constantly like that, but i guess it was easier to keep drawing when i was trapped in a classroom for several hours a day.

i guess my diary entries still turn out really long and photo heavy even when i base them on a shorter period of days, whoops. i love taking photos everywhere i go, and there's stuff all over the place here that catches my eye. maybe when it's hotter, i'll finally stay home lol. i don't have a lot of plans for the upcoming weeks, besides a followup doctor visit from my sinus surgery, and a (very very brief) visit to taipei for an immigration related thing. besides that, i want to continue taking more photos of my figures and dolls, as well as build the model kits i got this month.
still haven't gotten to do much in the way of lolita, besides scoring a few things on xianyu and that skirt i wrote about in my last diary. the latest AP entries haven't appealed to me, especially happy cake, which tbh i find absolutely foul and hideous lol
(Just My Onion ok.. i don't like baked goods prints and the color palette looks very muddy and unappealing to me)
i did get a case online for a few of my fashion dolls; it's the type that people usually use for those little blind box trinket guys, but i yanked out the shelves to fit 1/6 dolls. i'm debating whether to get a couple more cases for some of my undisplayed dolls, or come up with another display for those. i like how this wall is coming together; i enjoy the fact that it's colorful without being too visually overbearing.

i've been doing a lot of organizing and rearranging in the less visually appealing parts of the house (closets and cabinets mostly), which is rewarding but not really exciting to show here haha. having to leave behind all my shelving and most of my storage containers for the move has been distressing, but i'm slowly but surely gathering better storage for here. i like that a lot of furniture types are standardized, so things fit together well. like i got some shelf insert drawers from a different brand as my shelves, but because they're standard "color box" sizing, they fit anyway. i look forward to finding more neat little solutions like that.
